New York State Big 30 Game Coaches
BRADFORD, Pa. — The coaching staff on the New York sideline for the 45th Big 30 All-Star Charities Classic will look familiar to followers of the Franklinville/Ellicottville and Salamanca football teams.
Head coach Chad Bartoszek leads the staff, joined by three of his Franklinville/Ellicottville assistants — Jason Marsh, Mark Blecha and Harley Butler — and former Salamanca assistant Aaron Hill.
On Saturday, Aug. 4, at Bradford High’s Parkway Field, Bartoszek’s New York squad faces a Pennsylvania crew coached by Todd Silfies, who spent his six seasons as Kane’s head coach before stepping down at the end of last season.
In his fifth year as a physical education teacher at Ellicottville High School and coach of the Franklinville/Ellicottville Titans, Bartoszek has won two Big 30 Coach of the Year awards (sharing one of them with Silfies in 2015) and 2015 Western New York small school coach of the year. The former Salamanca High School and University at Buffalo star tight end previously spent six years as an assistant coach and also won two Buffalo Bills Coach of the Week honors. He resides in Salamanca with his wife, Denise, and two sons, Brandon (age six) and Tyler (four).
Marsh spent nine years as a varsity head coach at Salamanca and seven as an assistant, joining F/E’s staff in 2016. He’s also a former Big 30 game head coach and won Big 30 Coach of the Year in 2011. A physical therapist for the Salamanca City School District for 17 years, Marsh lives in Salamanca with his wife Nicole and children Lucas (13) and Courtney (11).
Blecha has 28 years of football coaching experience after 14 years as Franklinville’s head coach and 14 as an assistant, including his current role with the Titans. He spent 10 years coaching and teaching in Olean and now 18 years as athletic director/physical education teacher, along with baseball coach, at Franklinville. Blecha and his wife Stacey reside in Machias with their three children, Bryce (21), Brock (18) and Bretton (11).
Butler has five years coaching experience as an assistant and JV coach, along with modified baseball. He is the director of new business development at Cattaraugus Container. Butler and his wife, Hope, live in Franklinville with son Harley Butler III (19).
Hill started coaching in 2007 for Marsh’s Salamanca staff, then spent a year as an offensive line coach in Las Vegas for the Desert Oasis Diamondbacks in 2008 to return to Salamanca as a swing coach (assistant JV and varsity) from 2009-2013. He played in the Big 30 game in 2003 and coached with Marsh in the game in 2011. He’s worked for USA Football for the last three years as regional manager for football operations, working to build relationships between commissioners, coaches, officials and players and boosting awareness for programs including Heads-Up Football. Hill resides in Little Valley with his wife, Becky, and children Brennan (7) and Bria (3).
Silfies will be joined by assistants Royce Novosel-Johnson, Jim Sirianni, Tyler Smith and Christopher W. Barber, all of Kane.
