Salamanca, Smethport Come Through Again
Well, we've managed to get through another Big 30 football regular season.
And as it has happened to often since 1982, Salamanca and Smethport came through with unblemished records.
At Salamanca, the Warriors backfield, lauded as one of the best in recent memory, continues to impress Big 30 committee members.
Dustin Ross, through his leadership qualities and talent, has become a household name in the Twin Tiers.
2001 Salamanca Warriors Highlights
Mike Liberatore plays defense like he owns the field and the opposing players are trespassing. Derek Murphy and Cameron Haines are as steady as they come.
They continue to make plays.
And the Warriors, 29-2 under third-year coach Rich Morton, keep winning.
They wrapped up their third straight undefeated regular season and fourth consecutive league title (WNY Class C South) with a workmanlike 26-6 win over Allegany-Limestone on Friday night.
By his own admission, Morton said the game was a bit on the sloppy side, largely due to the snowy conditions.
The Warriors will host Cleveland Hill, a team they defeated 58-14 earlier this year, in a Class C semifinal game this Saturday.
