Salamanca Warriors 2026 Football Season

For the better part of the last four seasons, Salamanca football has operated with expectations that would have seemed almost unimaginable not long ago.

Section VI championships. State championship appearances. Deep playoff runs. All-State players. Big 30 selections.

Now, the Warriors face another test of the program's transformation: replacing another group of proven leaders while continuing to compete at the top of Section VI.

The 2026 season represents a new chapter for Salamanca football — but not necessarily a rebuild.

Salamanca entered the 2025 season facing one of the biggest roster transitions in recent program history.

The Warriors had just completed a 13-1 season, winning the Section VI Class C championship and advancing to the NYSPHSAA state championship game. That team graduated nearly 4,000 yards of offensive production, including quarterback Maddox Isaac, running back Xavier Peters and a number of defensive standouts.

Rather than allowing the transition to derail the program, head coach Chad Bartoszek and his staff turned to a new group of players.

Payton Bradley moved from tight end to quarterback and became the centerpiece of the offense. Conner Seeley, Jesse Hill and Quinten Brown took on expanded roles in the backfield, while players such as Thomas George, Waylon Dowdy and Evan Spruce helped provide stability defensively.

The results were encouraging.

Salamanca finished the 2025 regular season 5-4 and returned to the Section VI playoffs as the No. 8 seed. The Warriors ultimately fell to top-seeded Barker/Roy-Hart, 44-32, in the Class C quarterfinals after jumping out to an early 16-0 advantage.

For a team replacing that much production, simply getting back into the postseason was another sign that the foundation of the program remains strong.

The 2026 season brings another significant change.

Bradley, who emerged as one of Section VI's top players in 2025, has graduated. He finished his high school career as a First Team All-Star and Big 30 selection, while also earning significant academic recognition as Salamanca's 2026 salutatorian.

His departure leaves an obvious question:

Who is ready to become the next face of Salamanca football?

The answer may not be one player.

The Warriors have built their recent success around depth, physicality and a culture in which younger players are expected to step into important roles. The 2025 season gave several members of the current roster their first significant varsity experience, and that experience should pay dividends in 2026.

Conner Seeley is one of the names to watch after contributing both as a runner and receiver during the 2025 campaign. He scored a touchdown on the ground and another through the air in Salamanca's 19-13 season-opening victory over Olean.

The Warriors will also look to returning players such as Kasen Hardy and other members of the 2025 group to take on expanded responsibilities.

The key will be turning last year's experience into this year's leadership.

The Defense Could Set the Tone

If Salamanca is going to make another playoff push, the defense may ultimately determine how high its ceiling is.

The Warriors have developed a reputation for physical, disciplined defense during Bartoszek's tenure. That identity was evident even during the 2025 transition season.

In a 21-14 victory over Clymer/Sherman/Panama, Salamanca's defense helped protect a narrow lead while Bradley accounted for three touchdowns and 107 rushing yards.

The 2026 group will be tasked with replacing several veteran contributors, but the Warriors return players who have already been exposed to postseason football.

A Challenging Schedule

Salamanca will not have the luxury of easing into the 2026 season.

The Warriors open Sept. 4 at home against Springville Griffith Institute, followed by a road trip to Southwestern/Frewsburg on Sept. 11.

The schedule continues with Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Brocton, a trip to Randolph, Gowanda/Pine Valley, Allegany-Limestone, Falconer/Cassadaga Valley/Maple Grove, and Portville/Cuba-Rushford/Hinsdale.

That schedule should provide an early indication of where this young Salamanca team stands.

The Games That Will Define the Season

The September 11 matchup with Southwestern/Frewsburg immediately stands out.

Southwestern/Frewsburg enters the new season after producing one of Western New York's most explosive offenses in 2025. The Trojans handed Salamanca a 49-7 loss late in the regular season last year, snapping a remarkable stretch in which the Warriors had gone more than four years without allowing 49 points in a regular-season game.

That game should provide an early measuring stick.

The trip to Randolph on Sept. 25 will be another important test, while the October schedule becomes particularly demanding with Allegany-Limestone, Falconer/Cassadaga Valley/Maple Grove and Portville/Cuba-Rushford/Hinsdale coming in consecutive weeks.

For a young team, those games could ultimately determine Salamanca's playoff position.

What Will Make 2026 Successful?

The 2026 Warriors don't need to duplicate the 2024 team.

They need to become their own team.

That means finding a quarterback who can confidently take control of the offense, developing a reliable running game, replacing Bradley's production and leadership, and identifying the defensive players capable of carrying forward the physical identity Salamanca has established.

Most importantly, the Warriors need their returning players to embrace the responsibility that comes with being the experienced players.

The 2025 season introduced them to varsity football. The 2026 season will ask them to lead it.
