Alumni: Bartoszek, Colts Face Denver on TV Monday
A suggestion for local football fans, don't plan to be anywhere Monday night other than in front of the television.
The Indianapolis Colts (1-1), including free-agent signee Chad Bartoszek, will be taking on the Denver Broncos (2-0) in a preseason contest. The 7:05 p.m. game will be televised on NBC sports.
The 1999 Salamanca graduate, a 6-foot-6-inch, 255-pound tight end has seen time in the Colts' first two games, a loss to the Bears and a win against the Seattle Seahawks. One more game remains after Monday's battle with Cincinnati Friday in Indianapolis.
"We've been going to the games," said Bartoszek's mother, Christine. "It was in Urbania/Champagne when they played the Bears. We went to Indianapolis last weekend. Monday nite is on TV, and we'll be in Indiannapolis Aug. 29."
There was plenty of excitement during the April draft. That excitement has apparently continued as Bartoszek tries to land a spot on the Colts' final roster.
"I don't go anywhere where I don't get asked about Chad," Christine Bartoszek said. "It's a normal thing."
Chad Bartoszek could not be reached for comment today. Craig Kelley, Colts public relations director, said the roster has to be cut down somewhat by Tuesday.
"We're probably going to have to waive about 15 players," he said.
"The following week we'd have to be down to 53. You can't go above that. Players can get released and signed after that."
Christine Bartoszek said she feels both excited and nervous about the preseason and the time leading up to the roster cuts.
"We all are, because you don't know. You just have to wait. It's exciting and nervous at the same time."
