Alumni: Furlong Back at the Helm at Allegany-Limestone
Paul Furlong had some success in his first go-round as the coach of the Allegany-Limestone football team.
In 2008, his first year, the Gators started out 4-0, won the program’s first sectional playoff game since 1999 — a 12-8 victory over Akron in the Class C quarterfinals — and had a winning mark (5-4). In 2009, his last year, they won four-straight after an 0-3 start, eventually finishing a respectable 4-4.
Four years later, Furlong, who was replaced after that season by Chad Lyter, is back at the helm, getting the nod after the latter decided to step away over the winter, having just led A-L to a solid 5-4 finish and one of its most dominant regular campaigns in recent memory.
Much has changed since the last time he donned black and green — a lot of the names and faces — but much has remained the same, including the very practice area he spoke from Tuesday. Either way, he’s happy to be back and ready to improve on what he started a short while ago.
