Section 6 football schedules revealed

Section 6 football chairman Ken Stoldt recently released the federation’s 2018 season schedules, revealing the matchups in an eight-game Class D slate.

With schools including Randolph/Frewsburg, Franklinville/Ellicottville, Portville and Chautauqua Lake/Westfield all moving up to Class C, only four teams remain in the D league: Salamanca, Cattaraugus-Little Valley, Clymer/Sherman/Panama and last year’s state finalist, Maple Grove. The four will play each other twice for six league games, plus two non-league games before the four-team playoff starts in Week 9.

Salamanca opens its season playing C-LV, Friday, Aug. 31. Then the Warriors visit Franklinville/Ellicottville in Ellicottville Sept. 7 before two straight home games against Maple Grove and C/S/P. Olean visits Salamanca on Oct. 5 for the Warriors’ other non-league game.

After visiting SHS in Week 1, C-LV holds its home opener Sept. 7 against Royalton-Hartland of Class C North. The T-Wolves visit Allegany-Limestone Oct. 5 in their other non-league game.

In the new-look, seven-team Class C South, Franklinville/Ellicottville and Randolph/Frewsburg compete against Cassadaga Valley/Falconer, Southwestern, Chautauqua Lake/Westfield, Allegany-Limestone and Portville. The C South teams play each other once, plus one non-league game in a seven-week regular season.

The Titans begin their new league schedule with an immediate test, visiting defending division champion Southwestern, a 2017 sectional finalist, in Week 1 on Friday, Aug. 31. F/E’s non-league game comes the next week against Salamanca, coach Chad Bartoszek’s alma mater.

Randolph/Frewsburg plays host to Cassadaga Valley/Falconer Aug. 31 in a Week 1 home opener. R/F visits Southwestern the next week, then it hosts JFK (Class C North) for a Week 3 non-league game.
