Press: Section 6 releases 2020 football schedules
Section 6 released its 2020 high school football schedule on Tuesday, March 24, including revealing the eight-week slate for six Class D schools.
Class D teams will play five league games and three non-league. Franklinville/Ellicottville, Salamanca, Randolph and Cattaraugus-Little Valley all remained Class D teams for next fall, while Portville and Silver Creek/Forestville moved back down after being in C last fall. Clymer/Sherman/Panama, the two-time defending Class D state champions, moved to Class C South.
The top four teams in the Class D standings will make the Section 6 playoffs for the semifinal round. The fifth and sixth teams will play in the Chuck Funke Memorial Bowl in Week 9.
Salamanca’s season begins for a second consecutive season against Randolph, this time visiting the Cardinals on Friday, Sept. 11.
Salamanca will hit the road for its first two games, visiting Randolph and then Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Brocton on Sept. 18. The Warriors’ home opener at a to-be-announced site is set for Sept. 25 against Portville.
With renovations at Veterans Memorial Park this year, the Warriors will need a temporary home field. Crowley Park, home to Salamanca’s youth football programs, is one potential site, but a decision has not yet been announced.
After starting the season with three non-league games (CL/W/B, Cassadaga Valley/Falconer and Clymer/Sherman/Panama) in five weeks, the Warriors conclude the season with a crucial stretch of three league games, hosting Cattaraugus-Little Valley and Silver Creek/Forestville, and a Week 8 visit to Franklinville to play Franklinville/Ellicottville.
F/E, the league champions from last fall, begins the season with three non-league games in four weeks against Allegany-Limestone, CSP and Bishop Timon. The Titans have four home games, two each at Franklinville and Ellicottville. The Titans’ home opener is set for Week 3, on Sept. 25 against Randolph in Ellicottville.
Cattaraugus-Little Valley also opens with three non-league games in four weeks, playing CV/Falconer, Gowanda/Pine Valley and Cardinal O’Hara. The T-Wolves have a Saturday, Sept 12, home opener against CV/Falconer.
Randolph plays Springville, Bishop Timon and Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Brocton for its three non-league games. The Cardinals kick off 2020 on Sept. 11 against Salamanca.
