LeRoy, Salamanca matchup to decide Class C Far West Regional Championship

One squad is looking to advance to the NYS semifinal for the first time since 2007. Another is coming off its first sectional title in 22 years. Le Roy and Salamanca matchup for the fifth time in Far West Regional history this Saturday.

Here’s the breakdown:


Saturday, Williamsville South HS, 12:00pm

How they arrived here: Le Roy started its sectional tournament with a 33-22 win over No. 8 Penn Yan/Dundee in the quarterfinals, and then beat No. 4 East Rochester/Gananda in the semifinals, 37-6. The Oatkan-Knights then took down Attica/Alexander 27-14 to win the Class C Section V title.

Salamanca knocked off Cleveland Hill 42-20, Portville 35-24 and Medina 36-23 to be crowned Section VI Class C champion.

Trends: Le Roy has held its opponents under 10 points in five games this year. Salamanca has won six straight.

History 101: Le Roy enters the Far West Regional for the 13th time in program history. The Oatkan Knights hold a 6-6 record and most recently won in 2007, defeating Cleveland Hill 42-20. That year, Le Roy fell to Bishop Ludden (III) in the NYS semifinal. Le Roy and Salamanca have matched up in the Far West Regional four times prior to Saturday’s meeting, with the series being tied 2-2. Salamanca is looking to continue its quest to the state final, which they lost in 1999 to Edgemont (I) 32-20.

What’s at stake: Winner advances to the NYSPHSAA Class C semifinal against either Adirondack (III) or Waverly (IV).
